Pokémon has a lot of different types and a lot of different variations on those types. One such type is the Dragon Type, which features some very interesting and powerful Pokémon that can offer up both originality and strength to your team. This article highlights ten of the best Dragon-Type Pokémon in the current state of the game (Sun and Moon).
10. Flygon
Flygon has a very interesting Type-matchup in that it is a Ground and Dragon Type, meaning that in the current metagame, it resists every single type except for two – Electric and Ice. This gives Flygon a lot of leeway in its moves to choose from so it can be tailored to the team it is on, and with the current domination of Grass-Type Pokémon in the metagame, Flygon can be incredibly useful to break through that defensive line.
9. Haxorus
Haxorus has very high Attack and Speed stats, but its Defense leaves something to be desired. However, this is where its ability comes in, Mold Breaker. This ability negates any potential resistances or immunities its opponents may have and allows Haxorus to do very high damage while ignoring the opposing Pokémon’s defensive boosts. It also gets a few moves such as Swords Dance and Dragon Dance to boost its stats even further, allowing it to pose a serious threat offensively.
8. Kingdra
Kingdra is a very good Pokémon that’s only let down by its stats being spread too thin to be utilized effectively. However, it also has two powerful abilities in Sniper and Swift Swim, which boost the damage of its Water-Type attacks respectively if there is no other weather effects active or if it is raining. Kingdra is a Pokémon that can pose a serious threat in the rain and has a lot of coverage options to go alongside its STAB move, Dragon Pulse.
7. Dragalge
Dragalge’s typing gives it an incredible amount of type coverage with just its STAB moves alone, allowing it to easily get past some of the game’s most powerful Pokémon. It also has Sludge Wave to cover any Poison-Type Pokémon it may encounter. Dragalge is only let down by its stats being slightly underwhelming and a lack of longevity, but if you can take advantage of these two things, Dragalge will often be able to get off at least one strong hit before fainting.
6. Noivern
Noivern is the definition of a glass cannon, meaning that while it can dish out high amounts of damage, it won’t be able to take much in return. However, this is balanced by its ability, Infiltrator, which allows it to bypass any barrier or reflect that its opponent may have set up. This means Noivern can easily do lots of damage to an opposing Pokémon without it being able to stop the onslaught.
5. Dragonite
Dragonite has always been a very powerful Pokémon, but it took until Generation VI for its potential to be fully realized, thanks to two new additions to its movepool: the powerful Hurricane and the incredibly strong Fairy-Type Dragon Breath. With these two moves, along with its already high stats and decent ability in Multiscale, Dragonite is now one of the most feared Pokémon in Generation VII. It can easily take advantage of its typing as well as some very good abilities such as those mentioned above.
4. Porygon-Z
Porygon-Z is a Pokémon that can be tailored to fit whatever team it is put on, mainly because of its ability Adaptability, which boosts the power of its STAB move by 50%, allowing Porygon-Z to dish out very heavy damage if it gets the chance to
3. Hydreigon
Hydreigon was once a Pokémon feared by many players in Generation V and VI due to its incredible offensive presence and good bulk, allowing it to switch in on many attacks and KO back with ease.
Conclusion:
Dragon-Type Pokémon have always been a very powerful group of Pokémon, and these 10 are among the best there is. Look forward to more articles like this in the future!
