We, the admins and moderators of Riot Games Discord server, have recently noticed a lot of people using ‘bots’ and other third party software to abuse the chat and/or manipulate the ranks. One such recent exploit was done with help from several users who spammed messages in order to upvote themselves back into rank 1 (for whatever reason).
“We need to stop this, and we think we can do it with your help.” Said Hävvek one of the co-owners of the server.
How it works:
At first sight you might not see anything suspicious about a regular old message. But there’s an underlying system that we will refer to as a ‘Multi-Quoting System’. Spamming a message with a certain amount of characters will automatically give those words, and those words alone, their own color.
In the example below this is shown with the phrase “Discords Ban System” which you can notice is surrounded by a red border once pasted into Discord. If you were to spam this phrase a couple of times, you’d see that the first two quotes would remain red, however the third and fourth ones will be purple. This will repeat itself each time you spam said message adding a new color box to it.
This system can also be abused by linking banned players Discord usernames. In the example below both ‘Discords Ban’ and ‘System’ are linked, whereas the word ‘System’ is not visible as it has been replaced by a random letter.
The reason we do not want you to link these usernames (for whatever reason) is because we will ban accounts using Discord entirely. Without any chance of recovery. This means that if you use Discord to play League of Legends. We will delete your account. So please do not share usernames publicly in our server, or you risk losing access to your own account.
