The Dallas Cowboys made a strong comeback from their humbling defeat to the Denver Broncos. The Cowboys triumphed 43-3 over a feisty Atlanta Falcons squad that had won three of their previous four games.
The Cowboys made a big statement with their victory, and although the offense gets a lot of credit, the standout was a defensive squad that only gave up three points, including none after the first quarter.
Dallas’ cornerbacks, in particular, were crucial in the game. Trevon Diggs, once again, was a superstar, but the whole corner unit was intimidating.

The Cowboys were ruthless in their pursuit of the Falcons. Atlanta only managed 214 total yards of offense, while Dallas limited their opponent to 1-of-11 third-down efficiency.
Matt Ryan completed just 9 of 21 passes for 117 yards and two interceptions. Josh Rosen was brought in as a fill-in quarterback and completed just 1-of-6 passes with an interception.
For the first time since 2010, Dallas had three interceptions in a game, and all three starting cornerbacks, Jourdan Lewis, Anthony Brown, and Stefon Diggs, were involved.
The fact that all three interceptions occurred in the second half, and Dallas did it on three consecutive possessions, is particularly amazing.
The Cowboys snatched Atlanta’s will to win out of thin air and never let it go.
Nothing is more indicative of a closer’s mindset than that.

In his second season with the squad, Diggs has been outstanding. Diggs played wide receiver as a freshman at Alabama, and it shows in his covering abilities.
Diggs’ domination continued in the third quarter with a pick of Ryan. He backed up, turned his hips, and essentially ran the out-route for Kyle Pitts, Atlanta’s rookie pass-catcher. Diggs subsequently came away with his eighth interception of the season, high-pointing an errant ball from Ryan.
Diggs seemed to be in a funk after “suffering” two games in a row without an interception. That, though, tells more about his ability than anything else. He’s practically expected to come away with at least one interception at this stage in his career.
“I’m just going back to fundamentals.” “I was losing out on the subtle stuff,” Diggs said of his “get back” game. “To remain sharp, you have to be on top of your details.”
So far in 2021, Diggs has two interceptions recovered for touchdowns and has a pick in seven of Dallas’ nine games.
By a wide margin, he leads the NFL in interceptions. His eight selections are three more than the next closest two players. J.C. Jackson of the New England Patriots and Kevin Byard of the Tennessee Titans both have five.
No player, with the exception of Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt, has had the defensive effect that Diggs has in 2021. He’s a strong candidate for defensive player of the year.
Dallas has a strong defense to go along with a potent offense.

With a 7-2 record and a commanding lead in the NFC East, Dallas can now focus on preparing for a postseason run. The good news for Cowboys supporters is that they are in a position to go all the way.
The health of Dak Prescott is a significant concern for Dallas, but he looked good against the Falcons, passing for 296 yards and two touchdowns. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL as long as he stays healthy, and he’s surrounded by players who make his job easier. CeeDee Lamb, a second-year receiver, with 94 yards and two scores against the Falcons. Ezekiel Elliott just gained 41 yards on the ground, but he did score twice.
Diggs is far from the Cowboys’ lone defensive player making plays.
Without a question, he’s the focal point, but rookie Micah Parsons is all over the field and playing like a veteran, and the Cowboys now have 14 total interceptions after three versus Atlanta. With the exception of the breakdown against Denver, the defense has been outstanding.
Diggs, Brown, and Lewis have 13 of the 14 interceptions, proving that any quarterback attempting to go through the NFC would have a difficult time overcoming Dallas via the air.
The Cowboys have formed a no-fly zone, headed by Diggs.
