Rebecca Montgomery 5 min read

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are some of the best smartphones on the market, but they aren’t without their faults. For starters, they don’t seem to be able to make phone calls at times. Fortunately, this is a fairly easy issue to resolve.

Having a phone that can’t make calls is a problem that could ruin your day, and I’m sure plenty of people have encountered it. If you have a Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+, and you can’t make phone calls, there’s a few things you can do to fix the issue.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+ and you’re looking for a way to make phone calls on your device, you might be surprised to learn that this isn’t possible. There is a workaround, of course, but it requires rooting your S9 or S9+, and that might not be your first choice.

You can effortlessly transmit photos, movies, documents, and other multimedia items to other people using the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+. Some individuals, however, still believe that chatting over the phone is the most effective mode of communication. What should you do if your Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ is unable to make calls? Troubleshooting Basics

The inability to make phone calls on the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ may be a temporary problem or a hardware issue. So, before we go on to more advanced troubleshooting, let’s start with the basics.

1. Make sure you have an active plan on your SIM card and the signal is not weak. 2. Check the blocked list. Try to place a call to different numbers. 3. If you want to make a phone call over the Internet, inspect the WiFi network and cellular data. Toggle WiFi off and on. Or switch the Internet from WiFi to cellular data or vice versa. 4. Check the Airplane mode. Sometimes, we accidentally enable the feature. Open Settings > Connections > Airplane mode. Toggle the switch button. 5. Remove your SIM card and put it back. If you have another phone around, place your SIM card on it and try to make a phone call. 6. Restart your Galaxy S9/S9+. Press and hold the power button until the power off screen appears. Choose Restart.

Get in Touch With Your Carrier

Issues with the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ not being able to make phone calls aren’t necessarily caused by the phone, WiFi, or SIM card. It may be a result of your service provider. It’s possible that their system is offline or undergoing maintenance. To find out, try contacting your carrier through a different phone number, email, live chat, or other means.

Reset Network Configuration

Which reset should you do first if your Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ is unable to make phone calls? Because it has to do with WiFi connections, connected Bluetooth devices, and mobile data, choose Reset network settings. Furthermore, it is less risky than a factory data wipe and has no effect on your data:

1. Go to the Apps tray and choose Settings. 2. Select General Management from the drop-down menu. It’s possible that you’ll have to scroll down to find it. 3. Select Reset network settings from the Reset menu. 4. Select Reset settings, then agree by tapping Reset.

Examine Water Damage

The Liquid Damage Indicator (LDI) on the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ detects moisture or liquid damage. When you open the SIM or SD card tray, you’ll see it.

1. Turn off your phone. 2. Using an ejector tool, open the tray. 3. If the color of the LDI strip is pink, purple, or red, it has been exposed to fluids or moisture. Alternatively, visit a Samsung Service Center. White with pink letter Xs should be the standard LDI strip.

APN Settings Should Be Reset

The abbreviation APN stands for Access Point Names. It’s a connection that connects a mobile network to the Internet. The APN settings on an unlocked Galaxy S9/S9+ may not work correctly if you use a different carrier. As a result, the phone behaves strangely, as though it is unable to make or receive phone calls.

The steps to resetting the APN settings are as follows: 1. Locate the Connections option in the Settings menu and touch it. 2. Selecting Mobile Networks 3. Tap the menu and choose Access Point Names (three dots icon) 4. Select Reset to default from the drop-down menu.

Restore factory defaults

All data and settings on your Galaxy S9/S9+ will be erased if you do a factory reset. As a result, this technique should only be used after you’ve exhausted all other options. If you’re unsure, get expert assistance instead.

The steps to factory reset the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ are as follows.

1. Make a backup of your phone. 2. Go to Settings and choose General Management from the drop-down menu. 3. Select Factory data reset from the Reset menu. 4. Select DELETE ALL from the RESET menu. 5. If prompted, enter your Samsung password. 6. Press the CONFIRM button.
