The Tender Bar is a new drama film directed by George Clooney. It stars Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan, and Anna Kendrick. It’s the story of two brothers who are brought up in different ways but find themselves living on the same street in New York City years later.
The first look of filmmaker George Clooney’s upcoming drama The Tender Bar has just been published by Amazon Studios. In the family bar, we witness Uncle Charlie (Ben Affleck) giving his nephew J.R. (Tye Sheridan) some advise. J.R. seems to be taking it all in from one of his many eccentric father figures.
According to the official description, “The Tender Bar recounts the tale of J.R. (Sheridan), a fatherless kid who grows up in the glare of a bar where his uncle Charlie (Ben Affleck), the bartender, is the sharpest and most colorful among a cast of eccentric and outspoken father figures. As the boy’s determined mother (Rabe) struggles to provide her son with opportunities denied to her – and to leave the dilapidated home of her outspoken but grudgingly supportive father (Christopher Lloyd) – J.R. begins to pursue his romantic and professional dreams – with one foot firmly planted in Uncle Charlie’s bar. The Tender Bar is based on the same-named best-selling memoir.”
J.R. Moehringer’s story, which won him the Pulitzer Prize, will be told by an ensemble cast that includes Academy Award winner Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan, Christopher Lloyd, and Lily Rabe. William Monahan, an Academy Award winner, wrote the screenplay adaption (The Departed, The Gambler). Clooney has directed four feature films based on real stories, including The Monuments Men, Good Night, and Good Luck, and Chuck Barris’ tongue-in-cheek book, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, featuring Justin Timberlake as Chuck Barris, is also directed by George Clooney. He’ll keep rewriting history with his Watergate mini-series, The Boys in the Boat, which is based on the #1 New York Times bestselling book ‘The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics,’ about the American Olympic rowing victory in Nazi Germany. If you haven’t read it yet, you owe it to yourself to do so. With Saint John, he’ll continue his biographical trend.
Tye Sheridan initially grabbed our attention as a young kid in Matthew McConaughey’s film Mud. Since then, his fame has continued to grow. Critics praised him for his performance in The Stanford Prison Experiment. He is presently starring with Oscar Isaac in Paul Schrader’s new thriller The Card Counter.
Lily Rabe is presently starring in American Horror Story Double Feature, which is available to watch on Hulu. She’s featured in The First Lady, a film that tells the stories of America’s fascinating, complicated, and dynamic first women.
